First Semester Classes

First Semester Classes No matter your major, it is important to spend some quality time exploring what classes will work best for you in your first semester. Some classes will be first college class experiences, and others may be too advanced for the first semester. It may not be the best idea to schedule a 300-level class for your first semester unless you are absolutely sure that you will be successful. I recommend considering mostly 100-level classes for your first semester. Before coming to summer registration, you should spend time researching courses on the University of Illinois Course Explorer and Course Catalog. Reach out to current students or even recent Illinois graduates and ask them about their favorite classes. Look at your potential schedule, and put some serious thought into what times of day that you hope to attend class. It is vital to consider all elements of what makes for a good class schedule, including your preferred sleep schedule, any dietary needs, and more. Always remember that your class schedule can be modified once you begin the semester. Many times, you will drop and add classes as you find out whether or not they work for you. Also, it is always a good idea to keep a positive frame of mind about every class that you take. Even if you find out that you are taking a class that you dont love, you may gain new perspectives and interests that you never expected.
